My Approach

Collaborative approach:

I will spend time getting to know you,  understand your health concerns, your daily routine, your food likes and dislikes and your relationship with food.  I will try to make your plan as stress free and simple as possible and I also expect you to commit to the process and to put in the effort required to achieve the desired results.

Keeping it real:

I live in the real world and I fully understand that our lives these days are often busy and stressful and not everyone has time to cook from scratch everyday or has a budget for functional testing and supplements.   I have 3 children so I know only too well that it can be difficult to prioritise our own health and that life can get in the way sometimes.  That’s fine!  We will take things at your own pace and sometimes small changes can make a huge difference.  A balanced and practical approach is my motto.

Finding the root cause:

I use a functional medicine approach to try to identify the root causes of your health issues.  Rather than simply treating the symptoms if you address a problem at its source it leads to a better outcome in the longer term.

Educate and empower:

I think it’s really important to have a positive and healthy relationship with food and that changing how you eat should be an enjoyable process.   I strive to empower my clients to take control of their health and make positive changes to their food and lifestyle and to help them to join the dots between their symptoms and their causes

Nutritional therapy will help you to identify what works for you and your body and I will walk you through the steps to get there.

Consultations can also be carried out via phone or Skype for those who cannot make it to the clinic.  

Although many people need my help with specific health issues I also work with those who need general nutritional and food advice, tips on natural healthcare, ideas on how to get organised, motivated and how to incorporate positive food choices into a busy life.

Some of the areas I work in include:

Digestive conditions: GERD, IBS, IBD, Diverticulitis, bloating, constipation, coeliac disease, food allergies and sensitivities.

Hormonal conditions/Women’s Health: hypo and hyperthyroidism, PCOS, PMT, menopause.

Blood sugar issues: diabetes, pre-diabetes, sugar cravings, hypoglycaemia.

Skin health: acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea

Weight management: obesity, weight loss resistance, inability to gain weight.

General wellbeing: poor energy, low mood, fatigue, 'brainfog' and stress

Cardiovascular health: raised cholesterol and blood pressure, metabolic syndrome.

Please be mindful that I only take a limited amount of clients per week.  Much of my time is spent researching on clients behalf, interpreting test results, on support calls with laboratories and devising suitable and enjoyable meal suggestions and recipes for you.  I aim to give my clients 100% and am generally happy to answer questions between appointments(within reason) and encourage my clients to check in with me between sessions.

How the process works.

before your initial consultation

You will be asked to complete a detailed health and lifestyle assessment questionnaire.  This enables me to get an overview of your health status and to do some preparation in advance of our first meeting.  You may also be asked to keep a 3 day food diary to bring along to the consultation.

Step 1 – The Initial Consultation

We will spend 60 to 90 minutes discussing your current health concerns and symptoms, what and how you are eating at the moment, medical history, your stress levels, sleep pattern and activity levels.

We can assess how best to proceed and sketch out the bones of a plan taking into account potential barriers and how we might best work these changes into your daily life.

You will begin the first step on your personalised plan.

Step 2 – The Plan

You will be emailed a comprehensive action plan within 72 hours which will include nutrition guidelines and dietary strategies, nutraceutical/supplement recommendations based on our consultation, some meal suggestions and recipes.  

You will be well equipped to get started. All recommendations are tailored specifically to you.

It may also outline suggestions of laboratory tests which may help us identify how best to proceed.

Step 3 - Follow-up consultations

Most clients will attend at least 2 follow-up sessions with me.  Nutritional therapy isn’t a quick fix and it takes time and effort to identify and address root causes and to establish healthy eating and lifestyle practices.

During these sessions we will discuss improvements, challenges, test results (if appropriate), add to your recommendations and supplement plan.

These appointments are also used to re-focus and motivate you and me to continue to carry out research on your behalf.
